Nintendo has officially announced that the limited 3DS XL is now coming to North America on November 22nd at the price of $219.99. Good news for those of us on side this of the pond. =)
I've updated the GamerCard Generator today to fix a bug with the script where at times, the script would pick an incorrect image when a user had selected more than one background. Let me know in the comments if you experience any other issues. =)
A Link Between Worlds is closer than ever to be released and with that more and more information is being leaked. We've started to build the official soundtrack listing for A Link Between Worlds where you can download the MP3's. We already have a portion of the entire track listings from the game and will have more soon, so keep checking back for the entire soundtrack. Which one is your favorite song?
One of the best features of the Wii U & 3DS has been shut down. Released on November 18th 2012, Miiverse was Nintendo's first social network and allowed users to draw or type messages and share them with game communities. It was also right on the home screen of the Wii U menu as it showed off the most popular communities at that time as random Miis would be huddled around those popular game icons. Often, games would integrate Miiverse posts into the actual game such as the Miiverse stage in Smash Bros or the Tingle Bottle from Wind Waker HD. Back in June 2013 we added the Miiverse Posts section to the website as an archive for the drawings on the Legend of Zelda community of Miiverse. With the shut down, our final total is 12394...
We did a major server update this morning that brought the server down for a few hours to make improvements on the backend. For our frequent visitors, you should notice some more speed improvements, particularly on the forums.
Who remembers this video from way back in 2005? Shortly before the reveal of the Wii at E3 2005, this video was released claiming to be a leaked copy of Nintendo's new system. Showcasing a virtual reality headset among other features, the Nintendo ON created quite a buzz in the Nintendo fanbase with people believing the video to be real with others skeptic, but hopeful. Even Nintendo itself thought the video was well done. Interestingly the guy who created the Nintendo ON video, Pablo Belmonte, is also the same guy who created the Majora's Mask Wii U video that was released right before E3 2012. Obviously now we all know this was a hoax, but back then it was a really interesting concept and seemed to be inline of what Nintendo was...
The Legend of Zelda has traditionally been a single player series, with the exception of Four Sword Adventures on the GameCube and it's re-releases. No main title in the series has included a multiplayer option. Is that about to change? In a recent Game Informer interview, Eiji Aonuma hinted at the possibility of multiplayer coming to the future Zelda title. The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they’ve changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad. Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad. When I was talking back about making Zelda...
Today Nintendo revealed a limited edition bundle of Majora's Mask 3DS coming to North America later this year. The package includes a copy of the game (obviously), and a Skull Kid figurine as seen above. GameStop is currently accepting preorders for this bundle at $49.99.
Majora's Mask 3DS and the New 3DS system were officially released today for the 3DS! Majora's Mask features quite a number of changes from the N64 version, including the ability to use the Fierce Diety mask outside of the final battle, but only in the fishing holes. Other changes are similar to the changes Ocarina of Time 3DS had, such as gyroscopic controls for first person events, better item management, and different ocarina notes. Majora's Mask 3DS also supports the second control stick for camera movement. A few stores did receive more stock of the limited Majora's Mask New 3DS system, but were sold out pretty quickly, so don't give up hope if you still want one!
The Wii U has been officially released! Unfortunately, us here at Zelda Xtreme will have to wait until Monday to play with ours, but how is everyone enjoying theirs so far? In celebration of the Wii U release, we have added all the remaining soundtracks to our Zelda Soundtrack page. We have all the main games currently, but we hope to add remix tracks soon!
You filthy American pig-dogs!
Experience some of the theme music in A Link Between Worlds in the video below. What do you think?!
We have released the Breath of the Wild Soundtrack for download to all our registered members. Download and listen to the sounds of the game while real life keeps you away from playing. Is everyone enjoying Breath of the Wild so far?
Like a cat with a ball of string, I can't stop fiddling with the layout. I went back on my decision to add drop down menus for some of the items. I felt like this was adding unnecessary bulk to most pages, and at the same time, was not really a feature that is part of what the website's "purpose" is. That being trying to replicate the feel of early Zelda fan sites in the modern Internet age. Trying to balance between having a retro looking website, using the latest standards, and keeping the website performance as best as it can be has been a fun challenge. That said, I'm sure there will be more tweaks in the future. Currently, the drop down menu has remained for the games content, but that will probably change. On the plus side, the...
Back in November, I uploaded a test video of a recording of A Link Between Worlds using at the time a very jerry-rigged setup of a box and a DSLR. The results were okay, but not optimal and not very efficient as I would have to keep the 3DS perfectly still and even then the video quality wasn't the best. Thankfully last week, my wife sent off one of my 3DS to be retrofitted with a video capture device. Below is the video taken from the device. As you can see, a big improvement. http://www.youtube.com/embed/8Hece9JZ140 This will play a big part in my plans going forward with the website. I can't give the full details now as they are still in the testing phase, but I have done some very fiddly tasks on the back-end over the past...
One of the features I've worked on has been streaming video. It has been a long process where I would work off and on for several months on getting it working. It was one of those things where I would work on it, get stuck at some point, and come back to it later with a fresh mind. Streaming the videos isn't too hard, but allowing the user to skip around was quite a challenge. Nevertheless, streaming videos on Zelda Xtreme is now a thing. Right now, we have a selection of mostly retro Zelda videos, from the first Legend of Zelda commercial, but we also have more recent videos such as the Link Between Worlds trailer. We also have beta footage from Ocarina of Time, and the E3 2006 showcase of the Wii. We plan to add more videos over...
Of course with almost any website, any content will never ever truely be done. However, I got the first three zelda games finished. I will try to finish up the rest of them tomorrow. After I get all the games up, then it will be full fledged promoting of the site to see if we can draw some visitors.
Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, passed away on July 11th, 2015 the company said in an official statement released on July 12th. Iwata became president of Nintendo in 2002, and has been a major part of many Nintendo staples, such as the Nintendo Wii, DS, and 3DS systems. He will be missed.
I've completely redone the majority of the website to eliminate the use of tables in the main layout (with tables still being used for informational things on some pages). This should further help increase the website speediness due to the nature of tables and the way browsers render them. So far a lot of optimization has gone into the speed of the website and we currently sit at the below ratings: Another reason for taking away the tables is the greater flexibility with design changes, more specifically for our mobile users. From now on, when you access the website on a mobile device, you should get the mobile styling on all the pages except the Zelda Xtreme Forums and Zelda Topsites. Of course, I just set this up so it is very...
